Methodology & sources
Every number on this site is traceable to a named source. Where sources disagree, both figures are shown and the disagreement is flagged — never averaged away. Weekly figures are computed from daily values; cumulative totals come from the sources directly.
Ingestion health
When a source stops updating, the number on this site simply stops changing — nothing else announces it. This table is the check: the last date each source actually contributed data, updated automatically at every daily ingestion run.

Tech for Palestine
- Covers:
- Gaza daily casualties and demographic sub-counts, infrastructure damage, West Bank daily casualties and settler attacks
- Method:
- Aggregates Gaza Ministry of Health and Government Media Office reports; T4P interpolates gap days (marked ext_/fill in our data and dashed in charts).
- Caveats:
- Infrastructure feed updates far less often than casualties (its own last-reported date is shown wherever it appears). Casualty figures are MoH-reported; Airwars' cross-referencing has historically found MoH figures largely consistent with open-source verification.
UN2720 Mechanism (UNOPS)
- Covers:
- Aid trucks/pallets/weight through a four-stage pipeline: arrival, collected, delivered, and looted — by crossing, category, route, and recipient organization
- Method:
- UN-verified monitoring under Security Council resolution 2720. We snapshot its cumulative totals daily and compute day-over-day differences ourselves; the trend line starts at our first snapshot.
- Caveats:
- Covers aid moving through the 2720 mechanism — not necessarily all aid entering Gaza. Sub-period queries aren't supported by the source, so historical backfill before our first snapshot isn't possible.
OCHA Financial Tracking Service
- Covers:
- Humanitarian funding to the oPt flash appeals: paid, committed, and pledged amounts by donor and cluster
- Method:
- Self-reported by donors and agencies to OCHA; near-real-time as filings process.
- Caveats:
- Paid ≠ delivered aid; a flow's cluster is sometimes unspecified. Funding data measures money, not outcomes.
COGAT (Government of Israel)
- Covers:
- Israel's own published crossings figures (manual entry, where present)
- Method:
- Self-declared figures from a party to the conflict, entered manually when published; always labeled as such, never blended into UN-derived numbers.
- Caveats:
- COGAT has reportedly counted 12 pallets as one 'truckload' rather than counting physical trucks — its figures may not be unit-comparable with UN2720's physical-truck counts. Divergences between the two are shown, not resolved.
Federal Register / DSCA
- Covers:
- US arms-sale congressional notifications (purchaser, value, munitions)
- Method:
- Official Federal Register API; Israel-purchaser notices parsed from notification raw text.
- Caveats:
- Only 2 of roughly 100 FMS cases since October 2023 were publicly notified — most fall under AECA notification thresholds ($100M+ for Israel; WRSA-I transfers structured below $25M), so notified sales are a visible fraction of total transfers, not the total (see Forum on the Arms Trade). Review-window status is computed from the congressional certification date, not the (often-lagging) Federal Register publication date.
HaMoked
- Covers:
- Palestinians held in Israeli detention (sentenced / remand / administrative)
- Method:
- Monthly counts obtained from the Israel Prison Service under freedom-of-information procedures, published by HaMoked.
- Caveats:
- Monthly cadence; excludes some military detention categories.
Curated reference data
- Covers:
- US polling datapoints, independent casualty estimates, ceasefire phase dates, cumulative US military aid totals
- Method:
- Hand-curated JSON in the open repo, one citation per datapoint.
- Caveats:
- Updated when new publications land, not continuously.
Aid-truck benchmarks
Three differently-sourced reference points exist; the digest compares against the active one and footnotes the rest.
- Pre-war average: ~500 trucks/day — commercial + humanitarian combined (UN News, Sept 2024)
- WFP minimum floor: ≥100 trucks/day — sustained wartime minimum (WFP)
- Jan 2025 ceasefire stipulation: 600 trucks/day — currently the active comparison benchmark
On casualty figures
We treat Gaza Ministry of Health figures as a documented floor, not an estimate of the true toll, and corroborate them against independent research rather than averaging them away:
- Lancet capture-recapture (Jamaluddine et al., Jan 2025): estimates MoH figures undercount traumatic-injury deaths by roughly 41%.
- Lancet Global Health household survey (Spagat et al., 2026): independently estimates roughly 75,200 violent deaths in the first 16 months of the war.
- Airwars name-matching (2025): found 75% overlap between independently documented deaths and the MoH-published list.
- Leaked internal Israeli military intelligence reporting, per contemporaneous press coverage, was found to largely affirm the accuracy of MoH's published toll rather than contradict it.
